Indoor Playgrounds and Play Areas
  • Barnes & Noble - Play with the train table in the children's area, and stay for storytime. 
  • Burger King - The Mopac & Braker and Georgetown (IH 35) locations have indoor playgrounds. 
  • Chick-fil-A - 15 Austin locations have an indoor playground. 
  • Chuck E. Cheese's - 3 locations in Austin. Admission is free, and there are small play areas inside, but once kids learn about tokens, it's unlikely you'll escape without spending any money. 
  • Ikea - SmÃ¥land offers supervised children's play area for kids 37" - 54" that are potty trained. You check your child in while you shop and they give you a pager and a time to return. 
  • Kaleidoscope Toys - Tons to play with in the store, including a train table. Located off IH-35 N in Round Rock. 
  • Lakeline Mall - Small indoor playground for little kids, by Dillards. Located in Cedar Park. 
  • McDonald's - The website shows if a location has a PlayPlace, but it does not say whether or not it is indoors. 
  • REI Adventure Land - Great little play area on the 3rd floor of REI Round Rock.

Free Trial Classes
  • Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy - Try a free week of Kung Fu at MoyYat Kung Fu Academy! Just call 512-680-4535 to make an appointment, mention that you read about them on Free Fun in Austin, and you can attend as many classes as you like in one calendar week, for free! Kids' (Young Masters) class take place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 5 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 to 10 a.m. 
  • IIce Skating Lesson at Chaparral Ice - Saturdays at Chaparral Ice, kids age 6 and older can take a free ice skating lesson from 12 - 12:30 p.m. Ice skate rental is also free. To sign up for a free ice skating lesson at the Chaparral Ice located at Northcross Mall, 2525 W. Anderson Lane call 451-5102. 
  • Free Hockey Class at Chaparral Ice - Give Hockey a Try - available on select Sundays at the Northcross location. By appointment only - email Angie Schneider. Come check it out, it is a free class (one time only). This is a great way to try it out to see if your child would be interested in getting involved in the great game of hockey. Make an appointment and fill out the registration sheet and you are ready to try it!
  • My Gym Austin - Kids age 5 months - 9 years can try one class for free. 
  • Gymboree - Classes are for children age 0 - 5. You can choose from Music, Art, Sports, Play and Learn, School Skills, and Family Fun classes. Print a pass for a free class at a location near you here. The free pass coupon also gives you $20 off the enrollment fee, if you choose to join, although many locations are offering to waive the new member fee for Summer. 
  • Heartsong Music - Try an award-winning early childhood music program for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and Kindergarteners. There are 6 free sample classes to choose from in June. Go here to see the list of locations and times. 
  • Lakeway Karate - Try a class that is specifically designed for students with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome or Down Syndrome. Go here and fill out the form on the left, to sign up for a free trial class. 
  • Rat-a-tat-tots - Contact Lainie at mymommysings@gmail.com to schedule your free music class. Choose from classes on Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m., and Thursdays at 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., subject to availability. Private demo classes for playgroups can also be arranged. See the Rat-a-tat-tots websitefor the current schedule. 
  • Soccer Cubs - Kids 18 months to 6 years old can take a free trial class at one of two locations: 
    • To sign up for a trial class at Austin Sports Arena in Round Rock, call (512) 251-7500. 
    • To sign up for a trial class at SoccerZone in South Austin, call (512) 280-2244.
