If you can't get enough of the great outdoors and want to learn more about surviving in the wilderness, come to the CenTex Survival Fair at McKinney Falls State Park on Saturday, February 23, 2013. From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Meet first responders responsible for outdoor emergency services, see spiders, snakes, lizards and other wildlife in live demonstrations, learn to set up your own campsite, take a wilderness survival hike and try your hand at archery, atlatl, flint knapping, rock climbing, geocaching and other sports. There will be a fishing contest with prizes, along with a first time fishing kids’ program.

This event is free and open to the public after park entrance fees. Entrance fees for adults is $6. Children 12 and under are free.

Other activities at the CenTex Survival Fair include:

  • Learn to Fish -- Learn all about fishing during the Go Fish! angler education workshop. The workshop takes about 40 minutes and has 4 stations that start every 10 minutes. This workshop is free and you can join in anytime during the fair from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Geocache Challenge -- Participants may sign up at the event to participate in a 6-stop geocache challenge. Collect the cache passwords and get a prize upon completion. Bring your smart phone and plug in the coordinates or borrow one of the park's GPS units.
  • CPR Classes -- Got 10 minutes? Learn CPR! The Austin-Travis County EMS team will offer 10 minute CPR classes throughout the day. They'll also have a functional ambulance you can explore.
