You Know You Love You: Exploring Love Through Yoga and Writing
Ages 11–14
Saturday, February 9, 2013, from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday, February 9, 2013, from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
TownLake YMCA (Group Exercise Studio)
“You Know You Love You,” a workshop for kids ages 11–14, will be led by yoga instructor Elizabeth Doss. In this pre-Valentine’s Day workshop, students will use yoga and writing to explore how the mind and body interact to experience love. Bodies hold memories, and by examining physical sensations—the slow dance, the sweaty palm, butterflies in the stomach, frogs in the throat—students will put into words what it feels like to fall in love. Students will spend an afternoon exercising their inner romantics with handstands, spinal twists, storytelling, and free writes. No yoga experience is necessary, but students should wear clothing that allows them to be active.

Get ready to do with words what Picasso does with a paintbrush! Students ages 11–14 will focus on writing with an emphasis on the five senses to create a mental picture for the reader. Hands-on experience using a shadow box will help students develop sensory observation skills and understand how better to describe their imaginations and perceptions.
