This weekend on May 5, 2012, local skateboarding enthusiasts will make their way to the Austin Skate Plaza and enter into Elemental Awareness’ International Skate Contest Series. The series of competitions, called “Make It Count,” are held throughout the world (Austin is the 8th location this year) and are designed to promote talented local skaters while relaying the importance of social awareness, environmental stewardship and positivity in local communities. Anyone can compete, so long as they have a canned food item to donate for their entry, and the event is open to the public, free of charge. All canned food items will be donated to local, Austin food banks.
A major supporter of the event and Elemental Awareness’ mission, Chipotle Mexican Grill will serve free food and drinks to entrants from its new food truck. Chipotle will also award 10 of the most talented local skaters a custom skateboard and a card for a free burrito.
From the ten best, the overall Austin winner (as determined by a team of judges including an Element professional skater) will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the competition finals at Element YMCA Skate Camp near Sequoia National Park in August.
