Landa Park: Afternoon In New Braunfels
Saturday, February 4, 2012
Landa Park, located about an hour south of Austin, is
nestled in the heart of picturesque downtown New Braunfels, Texas. This park
has trails, pools, ducks, and playgrounds galore! It’s a perfect spot to spend a few pleasant hours.
Begin by walking down one of the trails which wind around rivers, ponds, and trees. Be sure to bring some bread, or else don’t
tempt the ducks! They are some of the friendliest fowl I have ever met, coming
right up to my feet expecting some food. I even got to pat one’s head after
dropping some crumbs.
Kids ready for some playground action? There is a fabulous playground
with four separate structures and two swing-sets to accommodate kids of every
age, from a fire engine for smaller tikes to a mountain climbing themed set for
older adventurers.
Be sure to bring your picnic basket, because there are not
only countless picnic benches, but also a pavilion to shade you from the hot
sun after a long day’s play.
In addition to all the free fun, there are several
attractions at the park available for a nominal fee. Check out the City of New Braunfels website for
details and times, as some features are seasonal. If you visit in the summer and you're ready for a real cool
down, plan to visit one of the park's two pools!
One of the most notable features crisscrossing the grounds is the park train! There are also boats
for rent at the boathouse and miniature golf available. Again, check the
City of New Braunfels website for hours and cost.
