Austin Area Heritage Council MLK Celebrations

The Austin Area Heritage Council invites Austinites to take part in events they have planned in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, leading up to the March and Festival on Monday, January 16, 2012.
MLK Day of Service, Saturday, January 14, 2012 -- Join United Way Capital Area and Hands on Central Texas in the MLK Day of Service. Bring friends, coworkers, neighbors, and family members and be a part of one of many community projects in the Austin area. Sign up to volunteer at www.handsoncentraltexas.org.
MLK March & Community Festival, Monday, January 16, 2012 -- Starting at 9 a.m. at the MLK statue on the UT campus, a short program will lead into a march to the Capitol for Gospel music, and then on to historic Huston-Tillotson University, where more exciting activities are planned. An estimate of 15,000 people have participated in the march in previous years.
The MLK Community Festival will take place at Huston-Tillotson University and will last until 3 p.m. The festival will feature live local music and plenty of vendors, sure to make for a fun afternoon celebrating Dr. King's legacy.
