Traveling Interactive Christmas Play
Monday, November 22, 2010
Pflugerville Community Church invites you to participate in the sixth annual Journey to Bethlehem, an interactive theatrical performance where you will experience first-hand the crowded streets and bustling marketplace of an exciting time in history. On Friday, December 3 and Saturday, December 4, the church grounds will be transformed into the dusty road to Bethlehem at the time of Christ’s birth. Visitors will be led by a wise man and the traveling audience will be taken through a physical tour of the Christmas story, meeting and interacting with interesting characters along the way.
The walk-through drama, told in nine scenes, contains both serious and humorous moments. Visitors will meet Zechariah, an excitable priest who is delighted to have a captive audience to talk to, after having been silent until the birth of his son, John the Baptist. They will also encounter King Herod, Roman soldiers, and find help from a beggar child in a bustling marketplace. The tour will end with a reflective stop at the Bethlehem manger.
“Come and talk with the vendors busy in their shops,” invites Pastor Steve Clem. “See the shepherds watching their flocks under the winter sky. Listen to the villagers talking in hushed voices about seeing angels and the birth of a very special baby. Keep your eyes and ears open to whatever miracles may occur. But don’t plan to stay overnight. The inn is full.”
Tours will run continuously both evenings from 6 – 9 p.m. each evening. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. After participating in the journey, visitors will be offered complimentary homemade refreshments. Children will enjoy seeing live animals throughout the play and visiting the Down on the Farm Petting Zoo. This event is free of charge. The petting zoo is also free. The play takes play outdoors, so please dress accordingly.
I am directing Journey to Bethlehem, so I will be there both nights. Please come introduce yourself if you come! I'd love to meet you.
