The boys and I spent a lovely sunny morning at the Austin Nature & Science Center this morning.  Located across the street from the Zilker Park playground, this free center is a great place to stroll around for a few hours.  There are some indoor educational rooms to visit, but the majority of the center is outdoors.

My boys' favorite spot was The Dino Pit.  There are four large sand pits with buried dinosaur bones for kids to unearth.  There are plenty of shovels, brushes and buckets to go around.

And there were lots of animals to visit, from a bobcat and a coyote, to many snakes, lizards, fish, scorpions and a tarantula.

There is also a great Eco-Detectives Trail, but I wouldn't recommend attempting that with small children.  It's a hilly trek through the woods that is not stroller friendly.
